Why do we have a School Council?
At Wimbledon Chase Primary School, we are committed to providing opportunities for pupils to have a voice through their engagement in our School Council. The incorporation of Article 12 of the UNICEF's Convention on the Rights of the Child underscores the school's dedication to respecting the views of its pupils, promoting a democratic and inclusive environment.
Our School Council is made up of representatives from Years 2-6 which ensures a diverse range of ideas and allows for a comprehensive representation of the pupil body. This approach not only fosters a sense of responsibility and leadership among the pupils but also contributes to building a strong sense of community within the school.
The initiatives undertaken by the School Council, such as organising charity events, theme days, and representing the school at external events, demonstrate a commitment to active citizenship, social responsibility, and the holistic development of the pupils. These activities not only enrich the pupils' educational experience but also contribute positively to the wider community.
The emphasis on the Cornerstone Curriculum further highlights the integration of pupil input into the overall educational framework, emphasising a well-rounded and inclusive approach to learning.
The School Council meet once a month with the Deputy Head; this facilitates open communication, collaboration, and a sense of partnership between students and the school staff.
At Wimbledon Chase Primary School, our School Council also meet termly with other local primary schools to share ideas.
