Through carefully personalised teaching sequences and a priority placed on speech and language, the ARP provides an exciting, multisensory, language rich environment where children can experience the curriculum through a wide range of activities. We develop confident and happy children and equip them with the skills to develop healthy relationships and independence. We nurture the personal qualities of every child and emphasise the importance of positive behaviour, empathy and encourage children to show it in their everyday life.
How we teach in the ARP at Wimbledon Chase
We provide opportunities to engage with different communities, activities and experiences for our pupils in the ARP. Learning opportunities are planned so they are prepared for life in a diverse society through a balanced and flexible curriculum both within the ARP classrooms as well as using resources such as the children’s cookery room, ICT suite, outdoor space and educational trips. We also aim to engage our older pupils with experiences within the local community.
By working closely with the speech and language therapist the children benefit from a curriculum that is underpinned by SaLT techniques and strategies, for example Colourful Semantics, Zones of Regulation, Story Champs and cued articulation. These interventions are collaboratively deployed by all staff in the ARP and communicated to mainstream staff to ensure a joined up consistent approach that enables the children to achieve their full potential.
Through a variety of planned and adapted broad and meaningful experiences each child’s individual journey is supported and their children’s learning is enriched by real life exposure.
